Proverbs 19: 1, 11, 15, 18, 20-21, 23

1 Better the poor whose walk is blameless than a fool whose lips are perverse.

11  A person’s wisdom yields patience; it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.

15  Laziness brings on deep sleep, and the shiftless go hungry.

18  Discipline your children, for in that there is hope; do not be a willing party to their death.

20  Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise.

21  Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails.

23  The fear of the LORD leads to life; then one rests content, untouched by trouble.

Prayer

Our Father in heaven, we honor your name with awe. We keep watch before you, so we can understand your plan and grasp your everlasting perfect will. Our lives are like a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. What we can boast about in life is nothing but labor and sorrow. In a blink of an eye, we die out and leave no trace. Therefore, teach us how to count our days so that we can attain a heart of wisdom. Getting up early in the morning, we want to draw positive energy from you so that we can live with purity. Filled with your love, we can be joyous throughout our lives.

Lord Jesus, when we stay close to you and walk with you; we are safe and sound throughout our lives, avoiding disasters. Under the pressure of the pandemic and social unrest, our faith is like withering grass, our hope is like drooping branches and our love is like dying flowers. Nevertheless, your presence, comfort and protection come to us like nourishing rain at night; and we regain strength. We can now laugh in the midst of storm and boldly look up for the rainbow. Lord Jesus, we become new creations because you are our close friend. We now have wisdom and life. We can discern right and wrong; know the truth; understand kindness, justice, integrity and your precepts. We can firmly follow the path of the righteous and become a living testimony of gentleness, kindness, compassion before others.

Holy Spirit, please uplift our hearts so we will cherish our lives and time. Help us to get rid of the laziness in our hearts so we no longer waste our lives in the pursuit of fallacious happiness and become lazy, fruitless Christians. Holy Spirit, please take full control of our minds and our thoughts. Help us to reject perverse and foolish mentality, forbid our lips to tell lies that distort facts, reject the thought of shirking our own faults and cherishing wealth. Help us to manage emotions well: slow to become angry, pursue wisdom sincerely, listen to admonishment and receive teaching eagerly. Help us to live a life of upright and good citizen, benefitting everyone in the society.

Pray in the holy name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen!
