Psalm 140: 1-7, 12-13

1  Rescue me, LORD, from evildoers; protect me from the violent,

2  who devise evil plans in their hearts and stir up war every day.

3  They make their tongues as sharp as a serpent’s; the poison of vipers is on their lips.

4  Keep me safe, LORD, from the hands of the wicked; protect me from the violent, who devise ways to trip my feet.

5  The arrogant have hidden a snare for me; they have spread out the cords of their net and have set traps for me along my path.

6  I say to the LORD, “You are my God.” Hear, LORD, my cry for mercy.

7  Sovereign LORD, my strong deliverer, you shield my head in the day of battle.

12  I know that the LORD secures justice for the poor and upholds the cause of the needy.

13  Surely the righteous will praise your name, and the upright will live in your presence.

Prayer

Gracious Father in Heaven, full of love and tolerance. Thank you for listening to our repeated requests every night. The coronavirus is spreading very quickly, catastrophic disasters are increasing, and in addition, ongoing armed conflicts are taking place around the world today. The pungent stench of sulfur wrought by exploding gunpowder used in warfare is stronger than the poisonous gas of viper snakes. Lord, we kneel before you this early morning and plead for mercy for this generation. Forgive us for not managing, maintaining, and development what you have entrusted us on earth. The world and the people are contaminated with moral pollution. The principle of family is disillusioned, and chaos replaces tranquility in our cities. We lift up our hands and pray for protection. May you hear the collective prayer from all the churches to sustain the earthly tents. May the wind of the holy spirit to blow freshly upon us and help light up the spiritual fire within us.

May the Lord Jesus Christ who will judge the living and the dead, do justice for us. Quell the violence, cruel conspiracy, and slander that are going on in our country. Save us from the pits of evil. Let uprightness stand up. We will praise the ways of the Lord. We submit our lives to you and ask you to take over.

Holy Spirit, keep us alert, comfort us with your rod and your staff and lead us to the righteous path. Steer us away from deceptive and evil traps. Give us strength to resist temptations and to get through these dark days. In your presence, our hearts gush out streams of joy, irrigating our dry and thirsty souls. Thank you for answering our prayer.
