Psalm 38:1-4, 8-11, 21-22

1  LORD, do not rebuke me in your anger or discipline me in your wrath.

2  Your arrows have pierced me, and your hand has come down on me.

3  Because of your wrath there is no health in my body; there is no soundness in my bones because of my sin.

4  My guilt has overwhelmed me like a burden too heavy to bear.

8  I am feeble and utterly crushed; I groan in anguish of heart.

9  All my longings lie open before you, Lord; my sighing is not hidden from you.

10  My heart pounds, my strength fails me; even the light has gone from my eyes.

11  My friends and companions avoid me because of my wounds; my neighbors stay far away.

21  LORD, do not forsake me; do not be far from me, my God.

22  Come quickly to help me, my Lord and my Savior.

Prayer

Almighty God, Our Heavenly Father, You search the minds and test the hearts of people. Attend to our cries and give ear to our prayers. The pressure and pain caused by the COVID 19 pandemic are like arrows shooting into our thoughts, and piercing our emotions. There are already several arrows of worry lodged in our bodies. We awoke with blurry eyes and alert minds calling us to line up our feeble bodies in front of your throne of grace, waiting for Your healing.

Lord Jesus, our savior, forgive our sins and cleanse our hands with Your blood. We place before you those who are infected with coronavirus, may they receive Your healing grace. In Your mercy, restore their health. Give solace to those who grief for the loss of loved one. They were shaken that they were not there at the end and their loved ones died in isolation.

Holy Spirit, the mighty comforter. We pray for the doctors, nurses, and other frontline healthcare workers, may You direct their hands, protect them from illness and sustain their energy. For the essential workers, the silent heroes serving our community, doing tasks we used to think mundane are risking their lives so ours can continue to thrive, Lord, keep them and their families safe and healthy. Help us to wait patiently for the reopening of the church gathering so that we can jointly praise God’s name and sing praises to our God.

We pray in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
